"Oh my, how the world still dearly loves a cage."- Maude from "Harold and Maude"

If you have never seen Harold and Maude, work it into your life schedule. This film, from 1971, is quotable from start to finish. It is like a year of Seinfeld in one film, so many poignant laughs. Laughing at life.  Learning from life.  Learning to live life.

There are websites dedicated to quotes from the film... and I recommend reading quotes there, but still, ya gotta see the film.

"You can see Maude say to Harold, "Zoos are full, prisons are overflowing... oh my, how the world still dearly loves a cage." or "The Earth is my body, my head is in the stars."

When you hear Maude deliver the lines they really take on the meaning.  "A lot of people enjoy being dead. But they are not dead, really. They're just backing away from life. *Reach* out. Take a *chance*. Get *hurt* even. But play as well as you can. Go team, go! Give me an L. Give me an I.     Give me a V.     Give me an E.       L---I---V---E.        LIVE!    Otherwise, you got nothing to talk about in the locker room."

Drop into one of these sites to update your fashion viewpoint.

About.com Style does not always make me happy because I am a visual creature.  But they do "get to the point" so it does not take long to check into their posts.  Plus they provide good links.

Check out 10 Fall Trends You'll Love to Wear

New York Magazine Fashion is diverse and fun.  Scroll down far enough to find Eight Trends You’ll Be Wearing This Fall.  Please do not miss the article on Guerrilla Retail which remarks, "We might even be entering some kind of a pop-up golden age, as an overstock of available storefronts coincides with brands’ trying to build interest and excitement any way they can, even if it means “guerrilla retail” techniques like offering a line of goods for sale and then snatching it away a week later."

While on the Guerilla Retail link make sure you click on Fall’s Fleeting Shops. This is a retail strategy that has been used by off-price for years.  It is interesting to see it at the designer level.

If books are your thing, check out Laurence King Publishing and their wonderful selection of fashion books.  They have Digital Textile Design and we are loving this book at El Paso Community College's Fashion Technology program.  Also look for 100 New Fashion Designers Hywel Davies.  It says, "The fashion industry has always celebrated innovative design, and young, talented fashion designers can make a huge impact as they explore new ideas and push boundaries. This book showcases the diverse and unique work of the best 100 new creatives in fashion design from around the world."

Do you still have time... check out Fashion Indie.

Speaking of Fashion Cats...

Have you heard the one about the cat that would not eat unless it was allowed to read the latest posts on Fashion Birthright?

Of course you haven't .... it is only in my fantasy!!!!  But you can click for a larger view...you know you want to read those titles... Kittylicious, the first fashion magazine for cool cats.

Magazine Bugs - If you have the magazine bug, this post is for you.

Making magazine covers, even more precisely, creating magazine concepts is fun to me.  I have been playing around with Big Huge Labs for more than a year now.  I love to create several issues of the same magazine.  FEM is my more "relaxed" fashion magazine fantasy.
So here is a link to get you started... play away!!

The Amazing Zandra

Zandra Rhodes has been inspiring others for so many years. I love her work and I wonder if you know how much she has influenced fashion?  Have your read about Zandra's influence on Punk?  Do you know about her work with the San Diego Opera?  Run around the web and see what you can find ... if you want any help coming up with links, let me know.

Looking at things through the eyes of another.

If I were Gene, I would love to be emblazoned on the cover of Gene Amour. It is not pride or ego. It is the love of love. Gene brings out the love and that is the joy of it. Share the Dream.

Where have I been?

I am going to give this blog another shot. Who knows.... it may catch my interest!
